Altos de Montecastillo is a luxury, residential area in the fertile plains of the Guadalquivir river, about 6 kilometres from the town of Jerez de la Frontera. With its superb location, Altos de Montecastillo is barely minutes from the capital, Cádiz, very close to the mountains and just a few kilometres from the beaches of Puerto de Santa Mª and Sanlúcar, on the Costa de la Luz.
The development faces the de-luxe Hotel Montecastillo and the emblematic Montecastillo golf course. An alternative, high-level residential area in a typically Andalusian setting. |

The history of Jerez bears the imprint of the different cultures that have come to settle in the area. While there are echos of the mythical Tartessos civilization, the history of Andalusian Jerez begins with the Phoenician enclave of Xara. Under the Romans, its name changed to Ceret before later reaching its highest level of splendour under the sovereignty of the Arabs who named it Scherisch. In 1264 the town was conquered by Christian troops.
The town has a rich architectural legacy from Christian times. Jerez is replete with a large number of churches from the late Gothic period, featuring renaissance and baroque elements. Renaissance, baroque and neo-classical palaces can also be seen.
The cultural and architectural contributions of these civilizations alongside the beautiful buildings of the famous and ancient, manorial wine cellars have transformed Jerez into one of the most beautiful and original places in Andalucía. A town where tradition and modernity co-exist in harmony with the most up-to-date urban trends. |
